Revisions and checkpoints

Jodu saves your project continuously — there is no save button. Every committed change produces a new revision of the project, and the project always opens at the latest one. On top of that history you can pin named checkpoints to return to later.

What is a revision?

A revision is one saved state of the project. Each edit you confirm — a wall drawn, a room placed, a finish applied — commits a new revision, and the project head moves forward to it. Revisions are what Undo steps through: each undo walks the recent history back one change.

Schedules, quantities, and exports are always derived from the current revision — re-open or re-export them after an edit and they reflect the new state.

What is a named checkpoint?

A checkpoint is a named, retained snapshot you create deliberately — before a major redesign, a client option, or a submission. Create and manage them from the project name in the top bar → Checkpoints… (see Project management).

A checkpoint is immutable: later work does not overwrite it, and restoring it does not edit the snapshot. Older entries created before restorable checkpoints existed stay listed but marked unavailable, because no model snapshot was saved for them.

What is the difference between restore and undo?

Undo (Ctrl/Cmd+Z)Restore checkpoint
ScopeRecent editing history, one change at a timeThe whole project state at a named moment
WhenWorking normally, fixing the last few editsAbandoning a direction entirely
What it recordsSteps back through revisionsCommits one new revision containing the checkpoint's state

A restore is itself an undoable edit: after restoring, Undo returns the state from immediately before the restore — so a restore is safe to try.

Generated outputs — exported PDFs, CAD files, and 3D artifacts — are not part of a checkpoint. Restoring changes the building model, not files you already exported; re-export them to get updated copies.

Is the title-block "Revision" the same as a project revision?

No. The Revision field in the drawing-set title block is an issue label for the PDF (Rev A, R1, …) that you control for submissions. It is unrelated to the project's saved revision history — changing it does not checkpoint or restore anything.
