Offset tool
Shortcut: O Toolbar: Modify group
Offset a wall to a parallel position at a given distance. The visible Offset options choose Copy wall or Move wall.
Prerequisites
- At least one wall drawn on the active storey.
Workflow
- Press O or click Offset in the toolbar.
- Click the wall you want to copy.
- Choose Copy wall to keep the source, or Move wall to relocate it.
- Move the pointer to the side where you want the offset.
- Type the distance in the visible input (e.g.
230 mm) and press Enter, or click at the desired distance.
The new wall appears parallel to the original. Endpoints auto-join with adjacent walls if they share endpoints.
Offset side
The side is determined by where you move the pointer before typing:
- Pointer on the left of the wall direction → copy appears on the left.
- Pointer on the right → copy appears on the right.
If you type without moving the pointer, it defaults to the left-hand side.
Scenario — exterior wall shell (9.0 × 7.5 m house)
You have drawn the 9.0 m front wall. Now you need the second parallel face of the exterior wall shell at exactly 230 mm.
- Press O, click the front wall.
- Move the pointer inward (toward the interior of the plan).
- Type
0.23, press Enter.
Two parallel walls now sit 230 mm apart — the exterior wall shell's front face. Eyeballing 230 mm on a zoomed-out canvas would land anywhere from 180–300 mm; typed entry guarantees the correct wall thickness every time.
Next: use Corner close (C) to join the offset corners where the two shell faces almost meet.
See Precision input for how typed metric entry works across all tools.
Why nothing happened
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Click does nothing | No wall under pointer | Move pointer closer to wall centerline |
| Offset creates overlapping wall | Distance typed as zero | Type a non-zero distance |
| New wall does not join corners | Endpoints do not align | Use Corner close (C) after offset |
| Offset goes to wrong side | Pointer on wrong side before typing | Move pointer to the correct side first |
Tips
- Copy wall keeps the original. Move wall relocates the selected wall; review hosted openings in the consequence preview before confirming.
- After offsetting exterior walls, use Corner close (C) to clean up near-miss corners.
