Wall tool
Shortcut: W
Toolbar: Draw group
Draw straight wall segments on the active level. The tool supports chain drawing and can close a loop when the last point returns near the first point.
Prerequisites
- An active level in Plans. Ground exists in a new project.
- A structural wall type selected in the Wall options. The wall type supplies the material layers and thickness; choose one before drawing.
Plot dimensions are useful site context but are not required to start native wall authoring.
Basic workflow
- Press W or choose Wall in the Draw group.
- Choose a wall type in the Wall options if one is not already selected.
- Click to set the start point. The pointer preview shows nearby snap targets.
- Move and click to set the end point.
- Keep clicking to continue the chain, or press Esc to stop.
For an exact wall run, enter the length in the visible input (for example, 4.5 m) and press Enter instead of clicking the second point.
Hold Shift while drawing to constrain the wall run to an axis. Hold Ctrl when the active interaction supports snap suppression.
How do I change a wall's thickness?
Select the wall type in the Wall options before drawing, or change the selected wall's structural type through its properties when that control is available. Thickness is a consequence of the selected material layer set; it is not a freehand draft-panel number. If the required type is missing, resolve the structural catalog or project setup finding instead of entering a guessed thickness.
Chain drawing and auto-close
After each segment, the endpoint becomes the start of the next segment. If the end of a later segment lands within 0.5 m of the chain start, Jodu closes the loop and returns to Select. Press Esc to stop without closing.
Why nothing happened
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The tool will not start a segment | No structural wall type is selected | Choose a wall type in Wall options |
| The level is wrong | Another level is active in the Plan header | Select the intended level first |
| The segment is rejected | It is shorter than 0.1 m | Draw a longer segment |
| A wall disappears after drawing | It duplicates existing geometry | Move the pointer and draw a distinct segment |
| The point did not land where expected | Normal snapping selected nearby geometry | Hold Ctrl where snap suppression is supported, or use an explicit input |
Tips
- Chain-click the exterior shell, then use Room for standard spaces or draw custom partitions.
- Use Offset for parallel geometry and Corner close for near-miss endpoints.
- Use Plan site setup when you need plot, road, or setback context; it is separate from choosing a wall type.
