Mirror tool
Shortcut: F Toolbar: Modify group
Mirror the current selection across an axis you define by clicking two free points. The Modify options let you choose whether to Keep original.
Prerequisites
- One or more walls, rooms, openings, stairs, or columns selected. Dimensions cannot be mirrored.
Workflow
- Select entities with the Select tool (or drag-select on the canvas).
- Press F or click Mirror in the toolbar.
- Click the first axis point (A).
- Click the second axis point (B).
The selection is mirrored across the line A→B. Axis points are free clicks; they do not snap to the grid.
Outcomes
| Result | What happens |
|---|---|
| Success | Mirrored copies placed; new entities are selected |
| Blocking diagnostics | Warning toast; mirror cancelled — clear the target area and try again |
| No transformable selection | Warning shown; Mirror returns to Select |
Scenario — symmetric bedrooms (9.0 × 7.5 m house)
You have drawn the left bedroom's interior walls (two segments forming a 3.5 × 3.75 m space on the left half of the plan). The right bedroom is identical.
- Drag-select the left bedroom's interior walls.
- Press F.
- Click the top of the corridor centerline (4.5 m from the left plot edge).
- Click the bottom of the corridor centerline.
The right bedroom's walls appear, perfectly symmetric. Redrawing them by hand requires retyping every length and eyeballing the position — Mirror does it in two clicks with zero measurement error.
Why nothing happened
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "No selection" warning | Nothing selected before pressing F | Select entities first, then press F |
| Mirror cancelled with warning | Mirrored position overlaps existing geometry | Clear the target area, then retry |
| Selection contains only dimensions | Dimensions are not transformable | Select walls, rooms, or openings instead |
| Axis points do not snap | Mirror deliberately uses free clicks | Place the two axis points deliberately |
Tips
- You can also trigger Mirror from the selection contextual toolbar — the floating bar that appears above an active selection without pressing F.
- Turn Keep original off when you want a move rather than a copy.
