Door tool
Shortcut: D Toolbar: Openings group
Place doors on wall centerlines. Jodu suggests a door kind automatically based on the wall's context; you can override it in the sizing panel.
Prerequisites
- At least one wall drawn on the active storey.
Quick placement (preset)
- Press D or click Door in the toolbar.
- Hover over a wall — the pointer snaps to endpoints, midpoints, and centerlines.
- Click to place the door with the auto-suggested kind.
Custom placement (sizing panel)
For a specific kind or width:
- Click a snap affordance (endpoint or midpoint) to enter the sizing flow.
- In the panel or HUD, choose a door kind (see table below) and adjust width and distance from reference if needed.
- Press Enter to confirm.
Door kinds
| Kind | Default width | Swing | When to use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 0.9 m (900 mm) | Inward, left-hand | Bedroom, bathroom, kitchen |
| Double | 1.5 m (1500 mm) | Double swing | Main entrance, living/dining |
| Sliding | 1.5 m (1500 mm) | Sliding | Balcony, back garden access |
| Main entrance | 1.2 m (1200 mm) | Inward, entry | Main entrance when a wider single leaf is wanted |
| Bathroom | 0.75 m (750 mm) | Inward | Toilets and bathrooms (adds a water kerb) |
| Custom | enter your own | — | Non-standard openings |
Jodu highlights the most likely kind chip based on the wall span under the pointer. For a bedroom wall ~0.9 m wide, Single is highlighted automatically.
Door types, hardware, and water kerb
Every door carries one of three door types — Main entrance, Bedroom, or Bathroom — set automatically by the kind you place. The type drives realistic 3D detailing:
- Main entrance doors get a 4-sided frame and a pull handle.
- Bedroom doors use a 3-sided frame and a lever handle.
- Bathroom doors use a 3-sided frame, a knob, and a 50 mm water kerb at the sill to keep floor water in.
Change a placed door's type from its properties in the Finishes panel; the schedule and quantities follow the type.
Snap behaviour
The door tool snaps to wall endpoints, midpoints, and centerlines. Grid snap is active but does not show a glyph.
Why nothing happened
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No snap on wall | Pointer too far from wall | Move closer to the wall centerline |
| Door placed on wrong side | Swing direction auto-detected | Use custom placement to set swing manually |
| Click does nothing | No wall under pointer | Draw a wall first |
| Door overlaps existing opening | Another opening is nearby | Delete the old opening or reposition |
Tips
- Auto-kind is usually correct. Override only when the room context is unusual.
- Doors can be moved after placement with the Select tool.
- Delete a door: select it and press Delete (immediate, no confirmation).
