Plot and setbacks
Use the Site setup panel in Plans to define the editable plot envelope, road frontage, and statutory setbacks. Defining a plot is recommended for clear site context, but native wall drawing and room modeling can begin even before a plot is defined.
How do I edit the plot dimensions?
- Open Plans.
- Open House tasks → Plot.
- In Site setup, open the Plot tab.
- Enter Width (e.g.
9.14 m/30 ft) and Depth (e.g.12.19 m/40 ftor15.24 m/50 ft). - Choose the Road side (Front, Rear, Left, or Right) and enter Road width (e.g.
9.0 m/30 ft). - Click Create plot (for a new plot) or Update plot (to apply dimension changes).
Standard residential plot sizes in India
| Plot Category | Dimensions (Metric) | Dimensions (Imperial) | Total Area |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compact 30×40 | 9.14 m × 12.19 m | 30' 0" × 40' 0" | 1,200 sq ft (111.4 m²) |
| Standard 30×50 | 9.14 m × 15.24 m | 30' 0" × 50' 0" | 1,500 sq ft (139.3 m²) |
| Medium 40×60 | 12.19 m × 18.29 m | 40' 0" × 60' 0" | 2,400 sq ft (223.0 m²) |
| Large 50×80 | 15.24 m × 24.38 m | 50' 0" × 80' 0" | 4,000 sq ft (371.6 m²) |
How do I configure setbacks and buildable area?
- Open Site setup → Setbacks.
- Enter the municipal setback distances according to local bylaws:
- Front Setback (Road facing): E.g.
3.0 m(10 ft) for parking and entrance approach. - Rear Setback: E.g.
1.5 m(5 ft) for ventilation and backyard space. - Left & Right Setbacks: E.g.
1.2 mto1.5 m(4–5 ft) for side passage and window clearance.
- Front Setback (Road facing): E.g.
- Click Save setbacks.
The resulting buildable envelope is drawn as a dashed guideline on your Plan canvas, making it easy to keep exterior walls within permissible building boundaries.
How do I create a compound fence and front gate?
- Open Plans → Site Systems → Fence Plot after the Plot is saved.
- Choose Select full boundary, or click Plot edges to select a partial run.
- Set the fence height, thickness, pillar spacing, and inset.
- Enable Include gate on front edge, set the gate options, and double-click the front Plot edge if it is not already marked as the front.
- Click Add Compound Wall.
After it saves, Site Systems switches to the saved wall and gate. Edit their dimensions and gate settings or delete them there; choose Add another fence to create another boundary run. Use Compound Run to click a manual axis and Finish run when the points are complete. The fence is a snapshot of the current Plot boundary; changing the Plot later does not silently move it.
Fence and gate work is represented in the Plan canvas, 3D view, schedules, quantities, priced BOQ, Plan PDF, and DXF. Gate rates come from the project RateBook; a missing rate remains visibly unpriced.
- Road side: Specifies which boundary of the plot touches the street (Front, Rear, Left, or Right). This determines front elevation orientation and main gate approach.
- North angle: Configured in the Site workspace. It rotates the solar compass and controls realistic daylight and shadow simulations in 3D House.
Why is the plot or setback missing?
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No plot appears on canvas | Width and depth have not been submitted | Use Site setup → Plot → Create plot |
| Plot size did not update | Changed fields were not saved | Click Update plot and verify save indicator |
| Setback lines not showing | Setback distances were not submitted | Click Save setbacks |
| Walls do not shift when plot moves | Plot resizing does not alter native wall geometry | Move or align walls deliberately with the Move/Select tool |
