CAD Export (DWG / DXF)
Jodu lets you export your exact 2D floor plans directly into CAD formats (DXF / DWG). This is useful when you need to hand off the architectural drawing to structural engineers, consultants, or contractors who use AutoCAD or other CAD software.
How to export a floor plan to CAD
- Open the Plans workspace.
- In the Plan header level dropdown, select the level you want to export (e.g. Ground Floor or First Floor).
- Click the Export menu in the top bar and choose Plan drawing (DXF/DWG/PDF)….
- In the export popover, select the DXF or DWG format tab.
- Select your target CAD compatibility from the dropdown:
- AutoCAD 2018 and newer (recommended)
- AutoCAD 2013
- AutoCAD 2007
- AutoCAD 2000
- Select your drawing Scale (
1:50,1:100, or1:200). - Click Download DXF (or Download DWG).
Note on DWG vs DXF: If DWG conversion is unavailable on your server install, Jodu will display a helpful message allowing you to download the industry-standard DXF format instead, which opens seamlessly in AutoCAD and all CAD software.
What gets exported?
The CAD export is a clean, layered drawing that mirrors your current active level. It includes:
- Walls & Partitions: Clean line geometry representing the wall shell.
- Openings: Door and window placements.
- Grids & Columns: Structural axes and column locations (if set up in the Structure aspect).
- Stairs: Staircase outlines and treads.
- Rooms & Labels: Room tags and area text.
Each element type is placed on its own CAD layer (e.g., A-WALL, A-DOOR, S-GRID), ensuring that the drawing is immediately usable in other software without tedious cleanup.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the CAD export include multiple floors? No, the quick CAD export from the Plan header exports the currently active level. To export the First Floor, switch to the First Floor level and use the Export menu again.
Can I export the 3D model to CAD? DWG/DXF exports are for 2D plans only. To view the building in 3D, use the 3D House workspace, which offers interactive experience modes (Overview, Analyse, Explore) and technical review modes (Floor, Structure, Section).
Does it include construction details or finishes? The CAD export focuses on the precise geometric shell, structural layout, and room arrangements. It does not export visual finishes or detailed BOQ tables—use the respective Quantities or Schedules workspaces for those.
